![]() ![]() ![]() There are various types of blood groups which all have their own pros and cons. ![]() These are also known as a universal donor and can donate blood to all types of individuals since they neither have A, B or D antigens nor do they have anything other which makes them the simplest form of blood to give to others. Therefore, during the blood banks, it is observed that people tend to ask for such type of blood from people since it can help individuals who are suffering from diseases better. Fortunately, they have not much of it present. When it comes to receiving blood there is a problem, they can only get blood from their own type with no other type of blood being favorable for them. Most of the people who have this blood can donate it to other people, and this type is also called the universal donor. The structure is straightforward, it does not have a D antigen, because of which it is known as negative rhesus. This type is one of the most common kinds of blood and majority of people have this type. If a person with O+ blood is given the wrong type of blood, this can result in the loss of lives since the type is rare. For people with this sort of blood, it gets tough to obtain blood from other kinds, but it can also be derived from O- which is available in abundance. When it comes to donation, it can only donate blood to its other type O- since it contains other antigens. They can only receive blood from their own type or from O- type since they do have some similarities. When it comes to receiving blood, O+ people cannot take blood from the A, B or even AB types because of the non-availability of these antigens. This is one of the most common forms of blood in the world and majority people have this type in them because of the composition. This type is also known as Rhesus positive. O Negative - Is There a Difference?Īs explained earlier, the O-positive type is the kind which has all the three types of antigens present in them. ![]() Explanation on both these kinds is given in the following paragraphs. One simple difference between them is that o negative is one of the rarest types of blood while o positive is the most common form of blood type. Another way of explaining the difference is that in the case of O negative blood group it does not have A, B or D antigens while O positive has the D but does not have A or B antigens. If a person has the D antigen present in their blood the group is known as positive rhesus while if the individual does not have D antigen, the blood group will be known as negative rhesus which forms the primary different between negative and positive o groups. Since O group does not have any antigens, they contain rhesus. Elaborating it further, an individual who has O negative blood group can give blood to everyone but cannot use other blood types while a person with O positive blood group cannot give blood to others but can accept all the types of blood. The main difference between O Positive and O Negative is that only the latter one is a universal donor while the first one cannot be transfused in other people’s body. These differences will be discussed here along with other explanations. Although the differences are not much, these are enough to raise confusion in people’s mind, and they may consider them the same. Two of them are O Positive and O Negative, which are universal donors but have differences in them. All of them have a positive and negative form which completes the eight different ones. These can be Group A, Group B, group AB or Group O. There are eight main types of blood, and a human being can have only one type of blood. Antigens are substances which can cause a response when cells come in contact with something foreign. Because of this feature, blood in unique human beings has different characteristics and therefore it divided into different types based on the presence and absence of different antigens. Blood consist of cells which have various functions and are made up of different particles. This is because everyone has a different group and blood can be transferred from one body or the other if it has the same characteristics. Whenever we visit a hospital or to blood donor camps we see that our blood group is tested. ![]()
